Where in Logan can you spend an afternoon with a boa constrictor, a bobcat and a parrot? There is such a place. And it???¦??s re-opening on Saturday.
Willow Park Zoo is opening its gates this Saturday. The zoo will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. throughout the season. Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children. Children under age 2 are free.
In addition to the regular ensemble of animals, on Saturday visitors will have a chance to see and interact with the bald eagle Indiana, as well as a peregrine falcon and a great horned owl. If the weather permits, a snake, cockatoo and cockatiel will also be shown.
???¦?I???¦??m excited to see people???¦??s faces as [falconers] and some of the others are walking around with eagles on their arms. I???¦??m excited just to see those kids eyes, see how they light up,???¦? said Troy Cooper, Willow Park Zoo director.
This is the first year the zoo will operate privately under the Willow Park Zoo Foundation, having separated from the city in February. This year, the zoo has installed a formal admissions booth, and has also included a gift shop.
???¦?I am excited about everything,???¦? Cooper said. ???¦?I???¦??m excited to see people???¦??s reactions to some of the changes we???¦??ve made, to see if they notice the changes we???¦??re making. I???¦??m excited for the staff who have put in a tremendous amount of hours in training the eagles, the owls, the hawks, so that we can take them out and have them interact with the people.???¦?
Most of all, Cooper wants to share the zoo with the city.
???¦?I???¦??m excited to have people come in and support their zoo. This is the community zoo. I???¦??m excited for every aspect of it.???¦?
