WHAT’S HAPPENING AT “THE MURPH?”

Various Community Events Planned in Downtown Glendale’s Murphy Park this Fall

City of Glendale ArizonaGLENDALE, Ariz. – Autumn weather means “It’s Happening at the Murph!” (aka Murphy Park) in Downtown Glendale, where the town-square ambience of the park and surrounding historic area’s shops and restaurants invite residents and visitors to enjoy the area during this season.

The city’s It’s Happening at the Murph! lineup of fall events includes a car show, a beer festival and a moon festival.

On Saturday, Sept. 16, the Old Towne Cruise and Car Show rolls into Downtown Glendale, with a variety of vendors in Murphy Park between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy all the sweet rides. A benefit raffle will be held for the Glendale Youth Project, as well. This family friendly event is free, so the more the merrier! Sept. 30 marks the second year the Vietnamese Community of Arizona holds their annual Children’s Moon Festival at Murphy Park in Downtown Glendale. That day, between 5:30 and 9:30 p.m., the public is invited to celebrate this mid-Autumn festival, which has long been celebrated by many Asian cultures between September and early October on the night of full moon. It celebrates three fundamental concepts that closely tie one to another: Gathering (harvest); Giving thanks; and Praying. Although the meanings and traditions have adapted over time due to religion, technology, science, economy, and culture, the concepts remain unchanged. The Moon Festival Celebration this year includes numerous aspects for community members to enjoy such as: food vendors, live music & entertainment, Dragon dance, children talent shows performed by children of various ethnic groups, and children’s games and contests. Surprise giveaways will be given out between 5 and 6 p.m. at the main entrance to the festival.

On Oct. 76-10 p.m., battle lines will be drawn in Murphy Park as the Glendale Firefighters Charities host the Battle of the Brews, taking on the Police Department in their annual charity event. Craft beer, food from the Valley’s best chefs, live music, and all to support a great cause. Full access tickets are $30 and all proceeds go directly to support charities helping homeless veterans, children and families in the Glendale area. If you’re creative, lucky or skilled, you might even take home some great prizes of your own from the full Corn-Hole Tournament or the Best Oktoberfest outfit contest! For tickets and more information, visithttp://www.glendalefirefighterscharities.com/battle-of-the-brews/.
