What You Need In A Hair Salon

They tell you never to judge a book by its cover. They say that beauty is only skin-deep. These are absolutely true, but it remains a demonstrable fact that first impressions play a major role in success. People will absolutely judge you on your appearance, and how you present yourself. Those first impressions are hard to overcome if they aren’t good. How to present yourself is something you need to learn on your own, but your appearance is easy, especially with a little help from a good hair salon. We talked with Becky from Superb Hair and More, a hair salon in Oregon area, about advantages the right hair salon can give you.

Appearance Absolutely Matters

According to a Forbes article, people who look good tend to get paid more, so you want to look your best. Whether it’s workers who workout getting as much as 9% higher paychecks, or handsome people making an average of 5% more, how you looks matters. Thankfully, beauty is largely an illusion. A good hair stylist can use the cut of your hair to frame your face in ways that highlight your most appealing features, while hiding less attractive ones. The right hair products can also help you look more clean, which always helps to create a good first impression.

So, the first thing you want to make sure of is that your hair salon knows what it’s doing. Anyone can cut your hair into something approximately right, but if you want the best, you need to ask questions. Don’t just sit in the chair and let them go at it, find out what they recommend. Ask them to explain what they think would look best and why they think so. A good stylist should be able to explain all of this to you in a way that makes sense.

Consistency

hair stylistConsistency is key to a good hairstyle. You want someone who can consistently do good work. If your haircut looks good one time, then looks off the next, people will notice it. They might not say anything – in fact, most won’t out of politeness – but they still notice. Even though it has nothing to do with your work, having an inconsistent hairstyle will make people think that inconsistency will show in your work. They’ll be less likely to trust you with important jobs, which could shut you out of many advancement opportunities.

Loyalty

To get consistency with your appearance, you need to find a good stylist and stick with them. That’s not to say it’s a one-way road, however; if a business isn’t loyal to you, they shouldn’t expect loyalty from you.

A good hair stylist needs to be someone you can trust and rely on. There’s a reason why a good stylist you regularly go to will talk to you and get to know you. It’s not just about keeping you from being bored, it’s about knowing your needs and interests. Knowing you lets them make better judgement calls about what kind of appearance will help you make the best impression on people. After all, different people will look for different things.

But more than that, they need to get comfortable with you so they can feel good about addressing issues with you. There are a lot of ways that your health affects your appearance, and that includes your hair. If a hair stylist notices a sudden odd change in your hair and is comfortable commenting on it, they might just clue you into a health concern you should check with a doctor about. Thyroid and other glandular problems, as well as various kinds of infections can show signs in your hair well before you’ll start to feel any ill effects. But a stylist can only notice these things if they know you well enough, so sticking with the right stylist is absolutely necessary.

It may even save your life. In one instance Becky told us about, she noticed one of her clients had some unusual changes in skin lesions and moles on her body. They were small and might easily have been dismissed, but Becky had enough experience to be suspicious. She told her client to go to a dermatologist as soon as she could. The next time she talked to her client, they told her that the doctor had found skin cancer. Because they found it so early, the doctor was able to treat it completely, removing the problem before it could get out of hand.

A loyal hair salon, with a stylist that knows you personally and is willing to be open and honest with you is an invaluable resource.

Look Your Best

look your bestWe all know that if you want to make a good first impression, you shouldn’t look like a dirty schlub. That’s a given, but looking your best, and therefor making that great first impression, is about more than just being clean. Looking your best is about going the extra mile. It’s about sending a message to the people around you: if I put this much effort into looking good, imagine how much effort I put into getting the job done. The right hair stylist will help you find the small things that accentuate your best features. With enough familiarity, they can even help you keep healthy by noticing the subtle signs that something might be wrong before you feel it.

Make sure you get in with the right hair salon. You want someone who knows what they’re doing, who is consistent in their work, and who will do everything they can to earn your loyalty to them. If you can do this, it will go a long way to helping you get ahead in life.
