One way you can be sure your food doesn’t go bad is by placing the items with the nearest expiration date to the front of your storage space. This way, it will be easier to find the food that needs to be used first.

Keep a Thermometer in the Freezer

Your fridge and freezer should be kept at temperatures of 40 degrees and 32 degrees Fahrenheit, respectively. You may notice that these appliances have controls on them to set them to certain temperatures. In the case of a power outage, you’ll want to keep a thermometer in the freezer. When the power comes back on, check that the thermometer is at 40 degrees or less. As long as it has kept that temperature, your food is safe to refreeze.
