Veteran-directed incubator, The Armory, kicks off startup finance forum

The Armory Incubator today announced that JPMorgan Chase & Co will serve as Presenting Sponsor of its Finance and Capital for Veteran-led Startups Speaker Series, which will assist military veterans to launch new ventures in the Phoenix metropolitan area. On the first Thursday of every month beginning in September, renowned national and local financial experts will share practical knowledge and lead lively workshops in a two-hour format sure to benefit entrepreneurs who wore the nation’s uniform.
“JPMorgan Chase is pleased to support the Speaker Series as part of our commitment to empower veterans and equip them with the tools and resources they need to succeed in civilian life,” said Ross Brown, head of the firm’s Military and Veterans Affairs office. “We know that veterans have the skills and the drive to launch startups, and we’re proud to partner with The Armory to help them with the fundamentals of business finance.”
RJ Jones, Vice President of Investor and Corporate Relations for Zillow Group, will be the Inaugural Speaker on September 7, 2017. “RJ is a close friend, an Army veteran, and one of the country’s top experts on the confluence of equity capital and veteran founders. He’s a prime example of the caliber of speaker ready to educate and inspire the veteran entrepreneur community here in Phoenix,” said The Armory Incubator’s CEO Phillip Potter.
Potter added, “This Speaker Series marks The Armory’s next growth phase as we add portfolio companies, expand services, bring on more mentors, and chart a strategic course to make Phoenix the national epicenter for veteran entrepreneurship. Fast Company recently named The Armory as the state’s top innovation for 2017 and we aim to live up to that billing. We’ve received tremendous support and we couldn’t be more pleased to now count JPMorgan Chase as a local and national corporate partner. Their dedication to veterans and startups is unmatched.”
“Through our local philanthropic giving, JPMorgan Chase has been a strong supporter of the entrepreneurial ecosystem and veterans’ initiatives,” said Noreen Bishop, Managing Director and Market Manager for the J.P. Morgan Private Bank in Arizona. “Therefore, we’re excited to extend our support to a program that’s helping veteran entrepreneurs who are trying to grow their businesses and contribute to our economy.”
The inaugural September 7th event will take place at The Armory Incubator, a co-working space and incubator facility for veteran-led startups located within the Arizona Center in downtown Phoenix. The event is free of charge to veterans seeking to launch or scale a new business. Scheduled events will take place the first Thursday of each month.
