Sandy, Utah – June 27, 2011 – The 2nd annual “Big Mountain Jamâ€, an AAU sanctioned event, will be held June 30 – July 2 at the South Towne Exposition Center. It will feature teams ranging from third-graders to high school seniors. The teams will be comprised of some of the best players from around the country.
The event will utilize 17 basketball courts, and include over 200 teams, 400 coaches, 2,000 athletes and over 4,000 parents and fans, “all under one roofâ€, competing for basketball’s top honor. Jeff Robbins, president & CEO Utah Sports Commission said, “Utah has a rich tradition of basketball success and it is great to have such a terrific event in Utahâ€. Mike Killpack, Big Mountain Jam Tournament Director, left the state after creating numerous successful youth programs as Salt Lake County’s recreation center facility director and area sports director. Prior to that, he worked in the national AAU office in Orlando, Fla., for 12 years before retiring. Killpack said, “The tournament competition will help Utah players improve by facing athletes they aren’t used to competing against. I want these Utah kids to be able to play these out-of-area kids and be able to stay home and play and save some money”.
The Big Mountain Jam is largest basketball event that is held in the Beehive State and offers more than great basketball. Spectators may take part in a 3-point contest and/or the Skills Challenge and visit over 50 booths.
