UTAH CHAMPIONSHIP PREPARES FOR HIGHLY ANTICIPATED “BIGGEST WEEK OF GOLF IN UTAH”

Top players on the money list will be competing for the

$725,000 prize purse at Oakridge Country Club
Farmington, Utah (June 21, 2019) – The Utah Championship presented by Zions Bank and hosted by the Utah Sports Commission, tees off next Thursday June 27 at Oakridge Country Club in Farmington, Utah. The event runs through Sunday, June 30th. Utah natives Danny Summerhays, Zac Blair and Preston Summerhays are scheduled to play with the top players on the money list.

This year the Utah Championship enters its 28th year, making it one of the longest-running stops on the Tour. Hosted at Oakridge Country Club in Farmington, Utah, the tournament will showcase world class golf in Utah and some of the PGA TOURS future stars as they compete for their PGA TOUR cards. Players will compete for a $725,000 prize purse, the second largest regular season purse on tour – this year’s champion will be awarded $130,500.
The highly anticipated "biggest week of golf in Utah" will feature fifteen hours of the Korn Ferry Tour’s best players competing on the Golf Channel (9 hours live), bring significant media exposure and economic impact to Davis County and the surrounding communities, and highlight PGA TOUR star Tony Finau’s efforts to grow Utah golf by serving underprivileged communities.

Tony Finau Foundation
The Utah Championship presented the Tony Finau Foundation with a $40,000 donation from a portion of the proceeds of last year’s event. To date, the Tony Finau Foundation has raised nearly $500,000, providing thousands of underprivileged children and their families with financial support, increased access to academic and recreational resources, family centered experiences, and a connection to a professional athlete whose personal background mirrors their own. In 2018, the tournament also donated $25,000 to the Huntsman Cancer Institute.

Sponsor Exemptions
Utah Championship organizers earlier announced this year’s three unrestricted sponsor exemptions for the 2019 tournament to be held June 27-30. Earning the highly-coveted exemptions are Taylor Montgomery, Will Gordon and Preston Summerhays. These players will join the field of 156 golfers competing for the $725,000 prize purse and a shot at a PGA TOUR card. All 50 PGA TOUR cards will go to players competing on the Web.com Tour and will be awarded based on season long results as well as performance at the year ending championships.

"This tournament showcases so many amazing golfers working toward their ultimate career goals that includes receiving these highly-coveted exemptions," said Jeff Robbins, president and CEO of the Utah Sports Commission. "As a partner of the PGA TOUR and the newly announced Korn Ferry Tour, and as host of the Utah Championship, the Utah Sports Commission is thrilled to award these talented athletes an exemption to Utah’s only PGA TOUR event."

New Partner
Just this week, the PGA TOUR and Korn Ferry (NYSE: KFY) announced a ten-year agreement making the Los Angeles-based, global organizational consulting firm the Umbrella Sponsor of the newly named Korn Ferry Tour. The first event with full Korn Ferry Tour branding onsite will be the Utah Championship presented by Zions Bank the week of June 24.

In addition to the tournament, a kid’s clinic will be held that will feature golf instruction from touring pros with each participating child receiving a free golf club courtesy of the PGA Section (while supplies last). The Kid’s Clinic is Saturday June 29th at 4:00p.m. and is free for children.

Tickets may be purchased on-site during tournament play at the gates starting at $10. General admission tickets proceeds will benefit Boys and Girls Club of Weber-Davis.

Spectator parking is available at the Legacy Event Center with shuttle service available to and from the course entrance.
