ART IN NATURE SERIES

Mixed Media Valentine Art
Thursday, February 6, 6-8 pm
We’ll break out the paper, paint, and collage skills as we create a mixed media Valentine ode to what or whom you love! Suitable for framing. All supplies included.
Cost: $12/members, $15/nonmembers. Ages 12+. Anyone under 16 must be accompanied by participating adult. Pre-registration required by 5pm, Tuesday, Feb. 4. No day-of-class signups.

Paint a Nature Center Landscape
Thursday, March 5, 6-8 pm
ONC volunteer coordinator and artist Dianna St. John will lead this group outside to paint if weather and sunlight permit. Otherwise, we’ll provide a reference photo. All supplies included.
Cost $12/members, $15/nonmembers. Ages 14+. Anyone under 16 must be accompanied by a participating adult. Pre-registration required by 5pm, Tuesday, March 3. No day-of-class signups.

NATURE NUTS SPEAKER SERIES

Kurt Repanshek, author of “Re-Bisoning the West: Restoring an American Icon to the Landscape.”
Monday, February 3, 6-7 pm
Kurt Repanshek is an award-winning journalist whose writing has appeared in Smithsonian, Audubon, National Geographic Traveler, and numerous other periodicals. He is the founder of NationalParksTraveler.org, the only editorially independent media organization dedicated to daily coverage of national parks and protected areas. Presentation is in the L.S. Peery Education Building. Pre-register by 5pm, Saturday, Feb. 1.

Christy Bills, entomology collections manager at the Natural History Museum of Utah
Monday, March 2, 6-7 pm
Christy will talk about Utah’s firefly population and the Western Firefly Project, a citizen science effort in which everyone can participate! Presentation is in the L.S. Peery Education Building. Let’s Go Birding Together Owl Prowl
Friday, January 31, 6:30-9 pm
Meet one of our owls, and prowl around the Ogden Nature Center after dark, in search of owls who are calling out during mating season. We’ll then convene either at the fire pit or indoors, depending on weather, for refreshments. BYO refreshments or enjoy cocoa or cider provided. Participants in this inclusive event must be 21 and older; IDs will be checked at the door. Pre-registration required by 5pm, Wednesday, January 29. Cost, $8/members, $12/non-members. SATURDAY AT THE CENTER: Winter Play Day
Saturday, February 22, 10 am-3 pm
Naturalist presentation at 10:30 am
Last craft starts at 2:30 pm
Come dressed for winter exploration. Play in the snow, do a self-guided animal signs scavenger hunt, learn about animal tracks, and make a fun winter-themed animal craft to take home. Ages 5+, must be accompanied by parents. Cost, $2/member, $6/non-members. Call 801-621-7595 to register.

Wild Wednesdays: Wild Romance: A Special Valentine’s Day Program

Have you ever wondered if animals flirt with one another? Come find out during our special Valentine’s Day program. Meet some of the Ogden Nature Center’s resident birds and reptiles and discover the unique ways these animals attract a partner. Then help us make nature-themed Valentines for the birds. Please meet in the Visitor Center. No reservations needed, just drop in!

What can dive at over 200 miles per hour? What has a beak that acts like a can opener? Falcons! Learn what separates falcons from other types of birds. Then take a short hike with a naturalist to look for signs of falcons at the Nature Center. Please meet in the Visitor Center. No reservations needed, just drop in!

Wild Wednesdays: Beavers: the brilliant builders

No other wild animal changes their environment more than the beaver. From dams, canals, and lodges, beaver create a habitat that suits their needs. Join us on a hike to learn about beaver adaptations and explore examples of their construction skills. Please meet in the Visitor Center. No reservations needed, just drop in!

Investigate the patterns of crystals and snowflakes and explore the frozen landscape through games, songs, stories and more! Snow shoes, sledding and snow painting if weather permits.
Preschool programs are designed for ages 3-5. Cost, $5/members per child/adult pair; $6/non-members. Groups of 5 or more, $5/child, with 50% nonrefundable deposit paid in advance. Call 801-621-7595 to register. Classes subject to cancelation with low registration.

Grab a blanket and join us out in the field, alongside a pond, or under the trees for story time at the Ogden Nature Center! Every Tuesday afternoon, come read a book with us outside. We’ll dive deeper into the themes of the story by exploring the Ogden Nature Center. Please check in at the Visitor Center. No reservations needed, just drop in!
