Residents encouraged to attend informational meeting Thursday
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— The City of Colorado Springs, El Paso County and the City of Manitou Springs invite residents in the Beckers neighborhood of Manitou Springs and Cedar Heights (behind Garden of the Gods Park) to attend an informational meeting Thursday evening to register to participate in a wildland fire evacuation drill on Saturday, Sept. 8.
This exercise is seeking residents from the following neighborhoods:
· Manitou Springs – Beckers neighborhood only
· Cedar Heights
Participating residents will evacuate their homes to a pre-determined location. They will receive lunch, entered in a drawing to receive an evacuation kit, receive a briefing from local emergency responders, and have the opportunity to visit displays from American Red Cross; The Salvation Army; Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region; Wildfire Mitigation; and the Office of Emergency Management. These groups and many more are working together to prepare our neighborhoods for emergencies and disasters.
