Drey A. Cooley and Justin Gelfand of law firm Capes, Sokol, Goodman & Sarachan, P.C., have been selected “Up & Coming Lawyers” by Missouri Lawyers Weekly, the state’s premier business publication for the legal profession.
“Up & Coming Awards” honor legal professionals age 40 or younger, or within the first 10 years of practice, who demonstrate professional accomplishment, skill and leadership beyond their years, and extraordinary commitments to the community through volunteer service and leadership.

Drey A. Cooley is a shareholder of the firm who concentrates his practice on complex litigation in business, real estate and construction matters; intellectual property litigation and IP registration; and civil and criminal appeals in federal and state appellate courts. In addition, he focuses on commercial real estate tax appeals.
Cooley has been designated a “Rising Star” by Missouri & Kansas Super Lawyers annually since 2011.
He serves as treasurer of the Missouri Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, and he is a member of the board of directors of the St. Louis Health Equipment Lending Program (HELP), a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that loans home medical equipment at no cost to any person who needs it. Cooley earned a J.D. from University of Michigan Law School (2006) and a B.A., Psychology, Phi Beta Kappa, with honors, from Washington University in St. Louis (2002).
Justin Gelfand is a former federal prosecutor who was based in Washington. D.C. He joined Capes, Sokol in March, 2014, with extensive experience in criminal tax, financial fraud and identity theft cases. A seasoned trial attorney, he focuses his practice primarily on criminal defense, white collar defense, internal investigations, criminal tax and litigation in state and federal courts.
As a federal prosecutor, Gelfand spearheaded more than 50 significant financial fraud grand jury investigations and represented the United States before federal courts of appeal with a 100 % success rate.
Gelfand graduated in the top five percent of his class at Washington University School of Law in 2009 and was inducted into the Order of the Coif. He earned a B.A. with High Honors in History and Politics from Brandeis University in 2005.
