Golf star creates partnership to integrate annual pro-am with the Utah Championship event on the Web.com TOUR
SALT LAKE CITY (May 8, 2019) – On the heels of finishing in a four-way tie for fifth place at the Masters, Tony Finau is further aligning his star-power with the top professional golf event in Utah. The Utah Sports Commission and the Tony Finau Foundation will host Finau’s annual Golf Classic pro-am the same week as the 2019 Web.com Tour’s Utah Championship at Oakridge Country Club in Farmington, Utah which takes place the week of June 24-30.

"Combining the Tony Finau Foundation Golf Classic with the Utah Championship event will create the biggest week of the year for Utah golf," said Finau. "Thanks to the Utah Sports Commission for the partnership that will help all of us give back to our communities – that’s what it’s all about."

The Tony Finau Foundation Golf Classic will be held Monday, June 24. The Utah Championship, a Web.com PGA Tour event, will also host pro-am events on Wednesday, June 26 before the event tees-off Thursday, June 27.

"As Tony has become one of the best golfers on tour, he has demonstrated his strong desire to help grow the sport here at home," said Jeff Robbins, president and CEO of the Utah Sports Commission. "Relocating the 2019 Tony Finau Foundation Golf Classic to be played the same week and on the same course as the Utah Championship creates a great opportunity for golf fans in our state to get a taste of professional golf and see what these tremendous athletes can do. We are thrilled to continue to support Tony’s Foundation which meets the needs of Utah’s youth and golf community."

The Tony Finau Foundation has raised nearly $500,000 to provide thousands of children and their families with financial support, increased access to academic and recreational resources, family centered experiences, and connection to a professional athlete whose personal background mirrors their own.

Finau is the latest in a long line of PGA TOUR players with ties to Utah, including World Golf Hall of Fame members Billy Casper and Johnny Miller, as well as current TOUR members Daniel Summerhays and Zac Blair.

Last June, the Web.com Tour’s Utah Championship announced that it would partner with the Tony Finau Foundation to support aspiring professional golfers from Utah. Finau teamed with other PGA TOUR players from Utah, to provide resources and help develop young, talented players who may not have the financial means to chase their golf dreams. The Utah Championship also directed a portion of its charitable proceeds to help fund the Foundation’s efforts.
