Salt Lake City (July 15, 2013) ???????? The Utah Sports Commission, host organization of the Utah Championship, was proud to partner with the PGA TOUR/Web.com Tour, Zions Bank, KUTV2, Robert W. Baird & Co., EnergySolutions and 1280 The Zone to present Huntsman Cancer Foundation a check for $35,000 that was raised during the 2nd annual Utah Championship’s “Pink on the Links” charitable campaign.
“The Utah Sports Commission was proud to have joined forces with the tournament, generous community partners and cancer survivor Mary Nickles to raise funds in support of the Huntsman Cancer Foundation and promote cancer awareness,” said Jeff Robbins, president and CEO of the Utah Sports Commission.
KUTV and 2News anchor Mary Nickles, a breast cancer survivor and a strong advocate for early prevention and treatment, participated in this initiative to help raise awareness for breast cancer prevention and detection. All proceeds raised will be donated to the Huntsman Cancer Foundation on behalf of Mary Nickles. “It was exciting to work with all these great partners again to raise money and awareness to help find a cure for cancer,” said Mary Nickles.
Scott Anderson, president and CEO of Zions Bank said, “We were proud to join forces with the Utah Sports Commission and other supporters of the Utah Championship to help raise funds and awareness in the fight against cancer. We are so fortunate to have the Huntsman Cancer Institute right here in our backyard, and the Pink on the Links campaign is an innovative way to utilize the strength of Utah’s only PGA TOUR event to help further the life-changing work they do.”
The campaign reached out to the community to help fight cancer by donating online and/or attending the Web.com Tour’s Utah Championship that was held this past week at Willow Creek Country Club. The campaign included activities such as professional athletes Trevor Lewis, Paul Kruger and Olympic Gold Medalist Dr. Eric Heiden signing autographs, Tour professionals shooting for a hole-in-one on the 18th hole for a chance to win $250,000 for the Huntsman Cancer Foundation, cancer survivors tending the flags on the 18th green, a raffle and the Web.com Tour players wives serving a hot dog lunch provided by “Pink on the Links” partners Robert W. Baird & Co., EnergySolutions, Pepsi, Majestic Meats and Utah Food Services. All of the activities contributed to the generous contribution that was presented to the Huntsman Cancer Foundation.
