NEW ORLEANS — Beginning on Thursday, June 14, at 7 a.m., the City of New Orleans Department of Public Works contractor Palmisano Construction will close the southbound lane (right lane) of Elysian Fields Avenue between Lakeshore Drive and Leon C. Simon Drive to begin waterline replacements. This southbound lane is expected to reopen on or around July 16. Public safety is our top priority; residents are reminded to use caution when driving, bicycling and walking near this construction site.
Waterline replacements entail excavating the roadway to place new water lines, pressure testing the lines, connecting the new lines to existing utilities and, finally, replacing the roadway.
In general, Palmisano crews will be working from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Saturday work may occur when inclement weather prevents work from occurring as scheduled during the previous week.
This temporary lane closure is a part of the $2.5 millionLake Terrace and Oaks Group APatch Concrete and Incidental Road Repair project. New roadways, sidewalks and waterline replacements on the entire project are expected to be complete by July 2019.
