Summer rains lead to high grass growth in some city parks

City of Fort Worth TexasLate-summer rains have led to high grass and weeds in some parks throughout Fort Worth. Here’s what residents need to know:

The city’s contract mowing structure and budget for parks is set up on a 14- or 21-day schedule from March through the first week of November. From March through June, contractors mow every 14 days. From July through the first week of November, contractors mow every 21 days. Traffic dividers are mowed on a 14-day schedule.

This year’s change to a 21-day schedule for parks, combined with the unusual late-summer precipitation, has contributed to higher growth of grass and weeds in some parks.

The Park & Recreation Department continually analyzes its budget and needs to adjust the mowing schedule for parks. Staff will continue to monitor and adjust schedules when possible throughout the remainder of the mowing season.
