Storm Debris Pick-up Information

The Unified Government’s Public Works Department is in high impact neighborhoods over the next two weeks disposing of large trees and limbs caused by the severe storms this past weekend.

Public Works crews will continue to focus mainly on the areas of highest impact. To help expedite the removal of debris, we’re asking residents to place their debris on the curb as soon as possible.

If you live outside of the heavy impact zone and have trees and limbs that need to be discarded, please place debris on the curb by August 9th and contact 311 Online to submit a service request.

Once again, these are your options if you have storm debris that needs to be picked up or discarded:

Residents can drop debris off between the hours of 8:00 am to 3:00 pm

  • at the Recycling Yard Waste Center located at 3241 Park Drive; or
  • at the Storm Debris Drop-off Center located at 82nd and Riverview.

Residents can drop debris off at the Waste Management Landfill located at 17955 Holiday Drive in Shawnee, Kansas (located off I-435 and Holiday Drive).

  • They accept from Wyandotte County residents, free of charge.   No commercial acceptance.
  • Will not accept anything larger than 3” in diameter or more than 4’ in length.
  • Property owner must provide proof of residency upon arrival at the landfill.
  • Acceptance is limited to one load per week, of no more than 3 cubic yards of material.
  • Hours of acceptance will be Monday thru Friday8:00 am – 3:30 pm, and Saturday 8:00 am – 12:00 pm.

You can make a service request by calling 311 or by submitting a request for storm debris pick-up on the 311 Online web portal located on the Unified Government’s website.

  • UG street crews will pick-up debris larger than 50lbs and more than 4 feet in length. However residents are responsible for getting the debris to the curb for pick-up. Public Works crews will not go on resident’s property. You can place your storm debris on the curb for pick-up

Waste Management (Deffenbaugh) requires that debris is 50 lbs. or less and a maximum of 4 feet in length.

Once again, we encourage residents who resided outside of this major impact zone to take debris to the drop-off sites or to use 311Online for storm debris pickup. This is important because it allows the UG to track pickup requests more effectively and efficiently from residents.
