Carrollton, Texas – The City of Carrollton is excited to announce one of the most popular rock bands of the ‘90s and early 2000s, Stone Temple Pilots, as the headlining entertainment for the 9th Annual Festival at the Switchyard on Saturday, November 3 in Downtown Carrollton (1106 S. Broadway Street).
The Grammy® award-winning group’s debut album, Core (1992), featuring hits “Plush,” “Creep,” and “Wicked Garden” was a huge success, making it to number three on the Billboard Top 200 chart. STP went on to sell more than 35 million albums worldwide with the release of Purple (1994), Tiny Music (1996), No. 4 (1999), andShangri-La Dee Da (2001), featuring songs such as “Vasoline,” “Interstate Love Song,” and “Sour Girl.” After separating for a few years to focus on other projects, the band released a self-titled album in 2010 and EPHigh Rise in 2013.
Now, more than 25 years after the band’s formation, Stone Temple Pilots has shifted lead vocals to Jeff Gutt, a veteran of the Detroit music scene who came to fame as a contestant on The X Factor USA. Founding member Eric Kretz said the transition was virtually seamless.
“The chemistry was there from the start, and Jeff kept coming up with one great melody after another,” Kretz said. “We ended up finishing 14 songs, which is the most that Stone Temple Pilots has ever recorded for an album.”
Their powerful, self-titled seventh studio album was released earlier this year, delivering more of the turbulent rock ‘n’ roll the band is known for with songs like “Roll Me Under,” and “Meadow,” a straight-ahead rocker that’s become the album’s lead single.
Nationally-known rock bands, Vertical Horizon and Tonic, will open the show for Stone Temple Pilots. Local bands, who will be announced in the coming weeks, will warm up the crowd.
In addition to free concerts, the award-winning Festival at the Switchyard features free live entertainment, free rides and games, free activities for children of all ages, and an array of food vendors and Festival booths to shop from. The event is held on the streets of Downtown Carrollton, just off IH-35E and Belt Line Road, steps away from the Downtown Carrollton Station on the DART Green Line.
