“Today, attorneys representing the city and downtown residents presented our case in the U.S. Court of Appeals against the FAA’s changed flight paths at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. This move – done almost overnight without any consultation with the communities affected – has disrupted the lives of so many in the heart of our downtown and historic neighborhoods. Since the FAA changed the flight paths two and a half years ago, more than 80,000 noise complaints have been lodged.
Now a federal appeals court has the opportunity to hold the FAA accountable for failing to follow its own rules by forcing these flight path changes on our communities and upending residents’ quality of life.
Today’s oral arguments were made jointly on behalf of the city and historic neighborhoods. This is a Team Phoenix response to a destructive move that we are all working together to fix. I am confident that the U.S. Court of Appeals will rule in our favor, and I pledge to use every tool available to keep the pressure on the FAA to fix this problem once and for all.”
