Statement from Councilman Michael Nowakowski on Decision to Move South Central Light Rail Extension Forward

[delay +1 hour]

“Yesterday afternoon, my colleagues and I voted to move forward with the South Central Light Rail Extension. I want to thank Mayor Williams for her leadership on this issue and for allowing the opportunity for a transparent process where the community was able to learn about the impacts of light rail from the four and two-lane design options. During this process it was clear South Phoenix residents want and deserve their fair share of street improvements, sidewalks, recreation facilities, jobs and accessible neighborhoods. As the Councilmember who represents a large portion of South Phoenix I am committed to making sure the community remains engaged in these issues as we move forward with the light rail process. I will fight to ensure South Phoenix gets their fair share of infrastructure improvements, provide businesses with the support they need and preserve the culture of South Phoenix. I am excited for the future and the opportunities light rail will bring to the community.”
