Everyday as I drove by a strip mall near my house, I noticed a sign for a southern food joint that was Coming Soon. This past week that sign changed to Now Open. My brother and I decided to stop into Papa O????????s on 11400 South State Street in Draper.
The first thing that I noticed was a number of big pots on the stove and a staff hustling about the kitchen. It was clear that this was homemade food and I couldn????????t wait to order. The menu includes classic southern items like fried or baked catfish and chicken, pork chops, oxtail (Friday and Saturdays), meatloaf and more including classic sides like red beans and rice, collard greens, mac and cheese, candied yams, grits and more.
I ordered the Low Country ($10.95), a tomato based stew with shrimp, crawfish and okra over rice with sides of corn and collard greens and some jalapeno cornbread. My brother ordered the BBQ Pork ($9.99) with baked beans, candied yams and blueberry cornbread.
My meal was incredible. The amount of crawfish and shrimp could have fed two people easily, but I was a pig and handled it on my own. While I was too full to try dessert, I did notice sweet potato pie on the menu. I suppose that????????s just one more reason to go back, and for the price it????????s a no brainer. You can visit
