FORT COLLINS, Colo. — For the second year, several of the most competitive club volleyball programs in the country will assemble for the Triple Crown National Volleyball Championships, set for April 24-26 in Salt Lake City, Utah. More than 65 teams from 10 states (14’s through 18’s) will take to the 12-court layout at the Salt Palace Convention Center.
Teams from Arizona, California, Georgia, Idaho, Louisiana, Michigan, Nevada, Oregon, Texas and Utah will be on hand. Fans can expect to see the sport played at its highest level in the 17’s and 18’s, with longtime power organizations like Tstreet, Texas Advantage, A5 Mizuno, Coast, Legacy, Arizona Storm and others ready to fight for the TCS national title. Last year’s Triple Crown champion in the 17 Open (Texas Advantage) and 18 Open (Coast) both went on to win titles at the season-ending USA Volleyball Nationals.
The team count is way up on the 14s, 15s and 16s as well, where fans can see future club stars on the rise.
“It is great to have Triple Crown Volleyball back in Utah and have elite volleyball athletes from around the country come to our state to participate in this championship,” said Jeff Robbins, president and CEO of the Utah Sports Commission.
“With 67 teams, the event has grown by 30 over last year, and that’s just one sign the event is becoming one to watch on the national volleyball schedule,” said tournament director Sean Hardy. “We have multiple teams in both 17 Open and 18 Open ranked in the top 10 nationally, and they are packed with athletes who will be playing D-I volleyball in the near future. We encourage fans to come to the Salt Palace and watch the high-flying competition.”
The 17 Open and 18 Open championship matches will be televised by CBS Sports Network; calling the action will be Thad Anderson (play-by-play) and two-time Division I All-American and AVP Tour Pro Angela Knopf (analyst). Those matches are scheduled for Sunday, April 26 at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. MT, respectively; the broadcast will be Monday, June 27 on CBSSN at 5 and 7 p.m. MT. In addition to the nationally televised broadcasts, all matches will be webcast live at WatchTCS.com. The action begins at 8 a.m. each day, with matches scheduled until 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Matches in the 14’s through 18’s should be completed Sunday by 3 p.m.
Utah teams are making a big impact on the Triple Crown National Volleyball Championships, bringing 43 teams to the event, and numerous athletes at the tournament are heading to play college volleyball at BYU, Utah State, Utah and other regional programs.
