Safety Improvements Coming to Plumb Lane

Reno, Nevada (September 23, 2019) – The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) is planning safety improvements on Plumb Lane between Arlington Avenue and Ferris Lane. Drivers can expect lane closures for roadway maintenance and reconfiguration on Thursday, September 26, and Friday, September 27, from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Traffic will be open to one lane in each direction during the project and residential impacts will be minor.

As part of the project, the roadway will receive a pavement treatment to extend the life of the road. It will also be reconfigured with fewer traffic lanes and additional bike lanes. After the closure, this section of Plumb Lane will have three total traffic lanes, one in each direction and a turn lane in the middle. It will have bike lanes on both sides of the road.

After careful consideration by the RTC, including traffic counts during peak commute hours and traffic safety analysis, this roadway reconfiguration was selected to improve safety and increase travel options for commuters. Similar projects in our community have reduced the severity of crashes and crash rates by 30 to 50 percent. The project will also increase on-street parking, improve livability and quality of life, and improve traffic flow.

The RTC’s investment in the pavement Preventive Maintenance Program for the entire Washoe County area for this fiscal year is $6.5 million.
