Richard Zita Named Greenway and Parks Planner

CHEYENNE – City of Cheyenne Mayor Marian Orr in association with Planning and Development Director, Robert Briggs, have announced the hire of Richard Zita as the City’s Greenway and Parks Planner.

Zita brings over 30 years of landscape architect experience and most recently served as the Project Manager and Landscape Architect for the City of Albuquerque for the past nine years. Involved with project planning, design, and implementation, Zita managed a diverse array of public improvement projects – 90 completed projects in total — including buildings, streetscapes, and parks and recreation facilities.

“Looking forward to continuing the fine work already completed and extending it successfully into the future.” Zita said regarding his new role with the City of Cheyenne.

His professional work has translated to earning the Honor Award from the American Society of Landscape Architects Oregon Chapter, Preservation in Action Award from the Architectural Heritage Center and the Bosco-Milligan Foundation, and the Partnership Legacy Award from the USDA Forest Service, Mt. Hood National Forest.

“We are naturally very excited to have Richard as part of the City of Cheyenne team. The Greenway and Parks Planner is a challenging and rewarding role, and he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the community. Cheyenne has been fortunate to have passionate and talented individuals who have contributed to the Greenway’s success.” Briggs added.

Zita holds a Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Virginia and a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Design from the University of Vermont.

Zita is married to Vicki Dugger who is the Executive Director of the Downtown Development Authority (DDA). The couple have four adult children and nine grandchildren. In his spare time, Zita is an avid cyclist and outdoor enthusiast.

Zita begins his new role on Wednesday, April 4 and welcomes the opportunity to meet and work with the citizens of Cheyenne.
