Relatively Speaking: Upon Prudent Behavior

Relatively Speaking is a throwback to another time in the world of genealogy. These are anecdotal stories to inspire those who search for their ancestors. Although, many of these stories are from before the world of computers and certainly the age of the internet, I believe that all of us have benefited from serendipity in our research.

Upon Prudent Behavior

My ancestor John Wilkinson came from Ireland as a child, grew up, married and raised a family of ten, in Virginia. On the death of his wife he remarried and had nine more children, moving to Butler County, Ohio where he died. His will is on record there for the August 1806 term of court. This will includes a bequest to his second wife:

??????I do bequeath to my loving wife Leah Wilkinson, the whole and sole use of my Plantation ???????? during her widowhood and good behavior ???????? when the children are ready for schooling, one half to be sold for that purpose ???????? the other half to remain in the possession of my said wife Leah if she still remains unmarried and behaves prudent at the discretion of my executors.??????
