Relatively Speaking: To Tennessee From Heaven

Relatively Speaking is a throwback to another time in the world of genealogy. These are anecdotal stories to inspire those who search for their ancestors. Although, many of these stories are from before the world of computers and certainly the age of the internet, I believe that all of us have benefited from serendipity in our research.

To Tennessee from Heaven

In the pursuit of my hobby genealogy, I often run across odd bits of information that stump me for verification. But none have been quite as far-fetched and amusing as the one told to me a few summers ago in Texas.

While visiting my husband????????s 83 year old cousin, I naturally asked him about his people as my husband knew nothing whatever about his ancestors. ??????Do you know what state your father came from??????? I asked. ??????Tennessee.?????? ??????Where did your grandfather come from??????? ??????Tennessee.?????? ??????Where did your great grandfather come from??????? ??????Tennessee.?????? ??????That????????s not possible! That was Indian country at that time. He had to come from Europe, perhaps Germany.?????? ??????We didn’t come from no other country. We weren’t foreigners!?????? ??????You had to! Now think! Where did your forefathers come from??????? Pale blue eyes brightened as his innocent wrinkled face lit up. ??????Heaven, I guess.??????
