Relatively Speaking: The Purchasing Of A Book

Relatively Speaking is a throwback to another time in the world of genealogy. These are anecdotal stories to inspire those who search for their ancestors. Although, many of these stories are from before the world of computers and certainly the age of the internet, I believe that all of us have benefited from serendipity in our research.

The Purchasing Of A Book

In searching for history on my ggggrandfather who served in the Revolutionary War, I had information that he was listed in History of Townsend, Massachusetts. I ordered the book from Charles E. Tuttle Co. Upon its arrival I turned to page 329 and 330 and much to my surprise there was a clipping from the Turner?›ƒ?ªƒ?›s Public Spirit published Saturday 29 December 1883. It was a Biographical Sketch of my Grandfather.

The good soul that owned the book before me had pasted this article in the book and it was in perfect shape. To say the least, you?›ƒ?ªƒ?›ll never know how happy I was that, that book fell into my hands.

That purchase was worth its weight in gold.
