Relatively Speaking is a throwback to another time in the world of genealogy. These are anecdotal stories to inspire those who search for their ancestors. Although, many of these stories are from before the world of computers and certainly the age of the internet, I believe that all of us have benefited from serendipity in our research.
Hand and Foote
A few years ago I applied for work in a local office. The manager, Mark Foot, I had never met. Entering his office, I asked, ??ª?You??ª?re Mr. Foote???ª? I then added, ??ª?I??ª?m Mrs. Hand??ª?. We both started to smile.
Knowing I had an ancestor named Nathaniel Foote who had come to this county about 1634, I asked about his family history.
Later, in Mr. Foote??ª?s home, we compared information in his Foote Family History with my Church family genealogical chart. Dates and names proved that his five-greats grandfather Nathaniel Foote, a founder of Wethersfield, Massachusetts, was my seven-greats grandfather.
How far apart are ??ª?cousins??ª? Hand and Foote?
