Relatively Speaking is a throwback to another time in the world of genealogy. These are anecdotal stories to inspire those who search for their ancestors. Although, many of these stories are from before the world of computers and certainly the age of the internet, I believe that all of us have benefited from serendipity in our research.
A Rare Talent
I had an interesting experience recently and I thought perhaps your readers might get a chuckle from it. A bystander, overhearing a conversation about genealogy asked: “Are you a genealogist?”
Reply: “Yes I am.”
Bystander: “Oh! Say something to me in genealogy!”
It happened in the peacefulness of a genealogy class in a LDS Ward, one Sunday morning several years ago. Our instructor had turned the time over to a class member to relate his fortunate findings of the week.
Apparently, he was without an Everton Publisher????????s 9-Generation Pedigree Chart, as he had copied his findings on the largest sheet of paper at his disposal. He finished his remarks and partially turned the sheet over to lay it on the desk.
Smiles began to appear on the faces of those present. Then convulsed into a gale of laughter as he quickly picked it up and displayed the reverse side. It was a picture of several well-fed black and white pigs in their pig yard. Unexpectedly, he soberly stated, ??????THOSE are my wife????????s relatives.??????
