Many parents know the struggle of properly securing their child’s car seat. This weekend, the Pocatello Police Department is offering to help you get it right, every time.
Saturday, September 21, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Portneuf Valley Farmers Market, 420 N. Main Street, the department’s certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will be helping caregivers properly secure child passenger seats in their vehicles. Technicians will also be offering tips on how to pick the best seat for your child as they grow.
“No parent wants to put their child in an unsafe situation, and having the right car seat for each child installed properly is critical,” said Brittany Yarbrough, Police Support Specialist. “With how complicated car seats can be, even the most well-meaning parents can make simple mistakes that could have life-long consequences. We are happy to support the caregivers and children in our community by continuing to offer this free service.”
In 2017, one child under the age of 13 in a passenger vehicle was involved in a crash every 32 seconds, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Residents who are unable to attend can call 208-234-6109 to schedule an appointment with a Child Passenger Safety Technician.
