The City of Pocatello’s Community Recreation Center (CRC) will be offering a Lifeguard Training Course beginning Friday, January 19.
Interested participants must complete a pre-course session and water skill testing prior to being accepted into the class. The pre-course session will offer a swim test, stroke improvement, and conditioning for those who may need pointers to pass the pre-requisite swim test. The pre-course session is free and will be held at the Community Recreation Center Wednesdays from 7 p.m.to 8 p.m. beginning December 6 and running through January 17.
Registration for the required pre-course session is now open online at register.pocatello.us or by visiting the CRC at 144 Wilson Avenue. Participants may register for one or all the sessions depending on necessity.
The Lifeguard Training Course will begin Friday, January 19 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for those who successfully complete the pre-course session and pay the fee. The remainder of the classes will be held Saturday, January 20 (9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.), Friday, January 26 (5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.), and Saturday, January 27 (9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.). Participants are required to attend all the classes and classes will not be made up.
The cost is $150 and includes the American Red Cross lifeguard training, first aid, and CPR/AED instruction. For those who successfully complete the course, the certification will be valid for two years. Participants must be at least 15-years-old to be eligible to participate.
