(Oct. 12, 2016) – The Phoenix Community Development and Investment Corporation (PCDIC) will send farewells to long-time board members George Dean and Patricia Garcia Duarte this year.

George Dean began his term serving on the PCDIC board in 2003 providing guidance on how the New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) programs could provide economic benefit and services to residents of the low to moderate income community through the NMTC projects funded by PCDIC.

“It was my pleasure to serve 13 years on the Board of Directors of the Phoenix Community Development and Investment Corporation. I was happy to assist in their mission to attract and provide funds for projects that helped to improve the quality of life of those individuals who live and work in underserved areas of the community,” said George Dean.  Mr. Dean also provided assistance in creating policies for programs benefiting the residents of the low income communities.

Along with serving as a board member for PCDIC, Mr. Dean also serves as the president and CEO of Greater Arizona Urban League for the past 25 years.  As president of the Urban League, he advocates for finding solutions to issues that African Americans and other minority groups face in areas of education, job employment and training, and overall economic development.

Also concluding her term on the PCDIC board is Patricia Garcia Duarte who invested 10 years to fulfilling the mission of the Phoenix Development Investment Corporation. Duarte spent a majority of her career catering to the needs of individuals living in low-income communities.

Duarte has a background in economic development and spent her career looking for ways to ensure that others could benefit from economic success. In 2006 she was appointed as the Executive Director of Trellis—a company that assists people in finding a stable home and invests in neighborhood development.

Patricia Garcia Duarte said, “As a community member, I tried to make sure that investments benefitted Phoenix low-Income communities.”

Presently, Duarte is the CEO and President of Trellis continuing the mission of creating economic development in the Phoenix community.

As PCDIC prepares to say goodbye to their long time board members, both individuals continue to live out their goal to create a better community in the Phoenix Metropolitan area.
