Phoenix City Councilman Resigns, Process to Call Special Election Begins

Today, Phoenix City Councilmember Daniel Valenzuela resigned from his post to run for the office of Mayor. Phoenix residents interested in being appointed as the interim Councilmember must apply by close of business on Thursday, July 26. Potential candidates who are interested in running to fill the remainder of the term of the vacated council seat must declare their intent to run within ten days, by 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 28. On Aug. 1 at 3 p.m., the Council will select the interim Councilmember who will serve until a Special Election can be held. That Special Election will be held on the next available election date of March 12, 2019.
