Parking fines going up Jan. 1

The City Council voted to increase fines and late fees for parking offenses effective Jan. 1, 2019.

City staff reviewed 33 parking codes for Fort Worth against their equivalents in five Texas cities of comparable size. In 10 instances, Fort Worth’s fine amount was on average 51 percent below the average of the other five cities. Staff recommended increasing the fine amount for 10 parking violations and leaving all other parking fine amounts in place because they are already equal to or exceed the average across the benchmarked cities.

Three offenses will increase to $200, the maximum amount allowed under City Code:

  • Parking in a fire lane/zone.
  • Parked in a disabled space/zone.
  • Oversized commercial vehicle on a public street.

The other seven parking fine increases will bring Fort Worth’s fine amount closer to the average fine amounts assessed across the benchmarked cities.

The last increase to parking fines was adopted Jan. 26, 2010.
