???¦?Family Day???¦?, Monday September 23, 2013, began with the purpose of encouraging families to eat dinner together.
This special day was established by Center for Alcohol and Substance Abuse (CASA), who recognized that children who eat dinner with their families:
1) Abuse drugs less
2) Enjoy better health
3) Do better in school
Epicworld Cultural Academy, based in Logan, Utah, has been promoting family meals for more than ten years. In conversations with parents in the Logan area, ECA founder Christine Davidson learned that parents are generally concerned about the need for character education in schools, but they cannot find the time to teach family values in the home.
Some parents voiced frustration about the problem of electronic games and other devices breaking the connection between family members. ???¦?But if you turn off the TV, ???¦??unplug???¦?? from all the devices, and sit down together at the dinner table, what can you talk about????¦?
In response to these needs, the Dinner Topics blog at www.epicworld.net has been well received. With cultural topics???¦? including arts, current events, history, literature, and music???¦? one dinner topic per day, framed in the Judeo-Christian worldview, is giving parents a resource to educate their families while they are all together. Many are finding that in about ten minutes???¦?? preparation they can minimize stress and still present a meaningful ???¦?Teaching Moment???¦? on a consistent basis.
Epicworld Cultural Academy is committed to restoring traditional values in American homes, and after the positive response to the dinner topics, is seeking to develop additional resources.
We invite you to join us in this endeavor to strengthen families and prepare the rising generation for a challenging future.
