Fan Voting Shows Enthusiastic Support for Nominees

Salt Lake City, Utah – April 10, 2014 – Over 100,000 votes from sports fans across Utah, 49 states, and 67 countries have been cast, showing strong support for nominees of this year’s Governor’s State of Sport Awards. Fans have weighed in on their favorite athletes, coaches, teams, games and highlights on the stateofsportawards.com website and the contests have remained close throughout the voting period. Voting will continue through Friday, April 18 at 12:00 noon. Fans are allowed to vote once per day.

The ten award categories include High School Female Athlete, High School Male Athlete, Collegiate Female Athlete, Collegiate Male Athlete, Pro Female Athlete, Pro Male Athlete, Team of the Year, Highlight of the Year, Game or Event of the Year and Coach of the Year. The nominees were selected by a committee comprised of members of the sports media and community at large.

Category winners will be announced at the Governor’s State of Sport Awards dinner on Tuesday, April 22. In addition, a Lifetime Achievement award will be presented to golf legends Johnny Miller and Billy Casper, and a special homecoming welcome will honor Utah’s Olympians and Paralympians. Special guest and one of golf’s greatest, Jack Nicklaus, will help honor Johnny and Billy.
