Oak Point Recreation Center to Hold Grand Re-Opening, Open House January 20

Plano residents have waited patiently, and today Plano Parks and Recreation announced that the wait is nearly over. Oak Point Recreation Center is set to re-open at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20. What better way to start the New Year in Plano than with a new and improved recreation center?

The facility has been closed since February to undergo its first major renovation. The project included aesthetic improvements, such as fresh paint, new flooring, and new fixtures, as well as the creation of additional classroom space and a party room.

Perhaps the most anticipated improvement to Oak Point Recreation Center is its new weight room addition. The new weight room, which is visible from Spring Creek Parkway, offers cardio equipment, stationary weight machines and a dedicated free weight room. Its floor-to-ceiling windows allow for ample amount of natural light as well as views of nearby Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve.

Patrons will also appreciate the updated reception area and the transformation of the existing locker rooms. The locker room updates include colorful new tile, flooring, fixtures and a new layout, creating a better flow for all. In addition, the center’s 50-meter, Olympic-size indoor pool received a new slide as well as new pumps and filters. The pool’s deck has also been resurfaced.

“We are beyond excited to re-open Oak Point Recreation Center. Many of our patrons have been eagerly awaiting this moment, and we believe they will be very pleased with what we have been able to do in order to keep their favorite facility current and accommodating,” Recreation Services Manager Colette Hall said. “And in the spirit of our 50th anniversary, we invite all residents throughout Plano to come and explore what Oak Point—as well as our other recreation centers and pools—have to offer.”

The grand re-opening will also help kick off the department’s year-long celebration in 2018 to mark its 50th anniversary. Similar open house events are scheduled at each of the city’s recreation centers throughout the year to mark the occasion. The celebration culminates in October with a birthday bash at Oak Point Park Nature & Retreat Center, followed by a community concert at Oak Point Amphitheater.
