Wild Wednesdays: Oh Deer!

Large ears that never stop moving….  Antlers that grow back every year….  The ability to run at speeds over 45 miles per hour! What is it?  Mule Deer!  Join us for a special WildWednesday program about one our favorite and most fascinating mammals that call Utah and the Ogden Nature Center home.  Join a teacher/naturalist to search for live deer and play a fun and educational game all about this antlered animal.  Please meet in the Visitor Center.
 
Amphibian Adventure
Saturday, November 7 from 9 – 10:45 am
$7 Ogden Nature Center members / $10 non-members
Ages: 10+ (under 16 must have a participating parent attend)
Have you ever wondered why frogs feel slimy or if toads can really give you warts? Can you name the 16 species of amphibians that call Utah home? Join a teacher/naturalist as we identify amphibians, get hands-on with a salamander, and discover the basic amphibian anatomy by participating in a frog dissection experience. Reservations are required and space is limited. Please register by Friday, October 30 to 801-621-7595 to guarantee a spot. 
 
Wild Wednesdays: In Honor! A Special Veteran’s Day Program

Join us for our annual celebration of Veterans Day as we discuss the history of this special holiday.  Our resident Bald Eagle, Des Ta Te, will be on hand as we honor our veterans.  Free admission for veterans and current military members. Please meet in the Visitor Center.
 
Flying Squirrels of the Wasatch Mountains
Thursday, November 12 from 6:30 – 7:30 pm
$3 members / $5 non-members
Ages: 5+
Join local resident Boyd Rasmussen as he shares lessons learned  from a lifetime of finding, monitoring and studying the Northern Flying Squirrels that reside in and near Ogden canyons. Mr. Rasmussen will share photos and stories of these elusive yet entertaining mammals. Some of what he has to say may leave you wondering if a flying squirrel has glided right through your campsite.  Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Please call 801-621-7595 by 4 pm on Wednesday, November 11 to reserve your spot. 
 
Home Sweet Home: The Importance of Place
Tuesday, November 17 from 6 – 7 pm
Cost: $3 for Ogden Nature Center members
$5 for non-members
Ages: 16+
Endemic species are those that do not exist in any other region of the world. Learn about endemic plants of Utah and why they’re rooted here. Take a guided walk to observe native wildlife at the Ogden Nature Center, then celebrate your appreciation of place and nature through a short poetry workshop. Pre-registration is required and space is limited. Please reserve your spot by Monday, November 16 at 4 pm by calling 801-621-7595.

Join the Ogden Nature Center education team for tales and demonstrations of plant and animal uses by indigenous cultures. Step back in time as you step into a real life tipi. Please meet in the Visitor Center.
 
Scout Saturdays 
Saturday, November 21
9 am – Native vs. Invasive
10 am – Conservation
11 am – Venomous Reptiles
$5 per scout / per class
The Ogden Nature Center provides the perfect outdoor classroom for scout activities. Have a teacher/naturalist help your scout pass off badge requirements during these 45 minute classes on Scout Saturdays. Reservation and a non-refundable deposit required. Rosie’s Story – Daisy Badge Program for Girl Scouts
Saturday, November 21, from 1-4 pm
Cost: $12
Earn your Rosie Petal by hearing Rosie’s story and discussing it with the group. Have fun acting out Rosie’s Story and help make the world a better place by doing a simple service project. For more information and to register please go to www.gsutah.org
 
Preschool Discovery Days: Plants and Animals Prepare for Winter
Choose a date and time:
Tuesday, November 24 — 9:30 am, 11 am, or 1 pm
Wednesday, November 25 — 9:30 am or 11 am
$5 members (ask about group rates)
$6 for non-members (includes one adult)
Ages 3-5 
Discover the many ways animals and plants prepare for the cold winter months. Play games, visit the bear den, read stories and create a cute craft as we learn about migration, hibernation and more.  Preschool teachers/aides are free with participating class. General admission fees apply to any additional family members in attendance.  Walk-ins will only be accepted if space is available. Classes may be canceled due to low attendance.  Call 801-621-7595 for reservations.
 
Wild Wednesdays: Gobble, Gobble! All about Turkeys

Are you a natural gobbler?  Test your gobbling skills against the nature center’s resident turkey. The more you learn about these unique birds the faster you’ll discover that there is more to the turkey than meets the palate.  Please meet in the Visitor Center.
