The Norman Police Department responded to the 700 block of Vicksburg Avenue at approximately 10:43 a.m. Wednesday in regards to a welfare check on a two-year-old male. Once on-scene, officers located the two-year-old male inside the residence not breathing. EMSSTAT responded and begin providing CPR. The two-year-old male was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Upon arrival at the hospital, signs of possible child abuse and physical trauma were discovered.
The initial investigation led investigators to believe the two-year-old male had been in the care of the mother’s live-in boyfriend, 38-year-old Christopher James Trent (DOB: 03/07/1981), at the time of the abuse. Trent was not at the residence when officers arrived.
Investigators began working to locate Trent Wednesday afternoon. Overnight investigators received an arrest warrant for Trent for a complaint of first degree murder.
Trent’s vehicle was located in Medicine Park, Oklahoma on Wednesday night. However, Trent remains outstanding. Norman police have requested the assistance of the Park Rangers, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, and the Comanche County Sheriff’s Office to complete a search by ground and air for Trent in the area of the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge. This search is ongoing.
Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Trent or who have information regarding this investigation as asked to contact Norman Crime Stoppers at 405-366-STOP (7867).
The incident remains under investigation.
