NOPD Arrests Three Subjects in Third District Vehicle Theft

NEW ORLEANS – NOPD Third District officers arrested three subjects in connection with the theft of a vehicle from the Third District.

On July 18, 2018 around 2:30 a.m., night watch officers recovered a Jeep Grand Cherokee reported stolen from the 900 block of Robert E. Lee Boulevard on July 15, 2018.

Vehicle was recovered after police were called for a report of three subjects exiting a vehicle and pulling on car door handles in the 5000 block of Frenchmen Street.

While questioning the subjects, the responding officer noticed an identifying mark on the left calf of one of the subjects she had seen in surveillance video obtained by NOPD officers.

Further investigation revealed one of the subjects to be in possession of items related to the theft of the Grand Cherokee.

The arrested individuals arrested are:

  • Donovan Darrell Mitchell, (B/M DOB: 07/28/98)
  • Dwight Shone Robinson, (B/M DOB: 02/15/99)
  • Malik Spencer, (B/M DOB:02/23/98)

During a search of the vehicle, officers found property inside the Cherokee belonging to the victim of a separate vehicle in the 6600 block of Louis XIV.

The three subjects are each charged with two counts of illegal possession of stolen things.

Investigators are working to determine whether these subjects are involved in additional auto thefts and burglaries that have occurred in the Third District.

In addition to this arrest, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested several subjects early Wednesday morning in connection with another auto theft from the Third District.

This investigation remains open and active. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Third District Investigative Unit at 504-658-6030 or call Crimestoppers anonymously at 504-822-1111 and toll free at 1-877-903-7867.
