NOPD Arrests Subject in First District Shooting

NEW ORLEANS – The NOPD has arrested a subject believed to be involved in a First District shooting.

First District detectives were dispatched to West Jefferson Hospital on Thursday, January 10, 2019 to talk to a subject suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. Upon interviewing the subject, he stated he shot himself in the 2600 block of Dumaine Street the previous night. Detectives observed he matched the description of the perpetrator involved in the shooting in the 2600 block of Dumaine Street that wounded two male victims, ages 19 and nine.

During questioning, the subject admitted to shooting both victims. Based on his admission and evidence from the scene, detectives secured an arrest warrant for Rontrell Keller (B/M DOB: 1/30//2001) for two counts of aggravated battery.

During a search of Keller’s residence, detectives located a .9mm Smith and Wesson handgun believed to be the weapon used in the shooting.
