Nonprofit Night At Sunset on the Square Tomorrow Friday June 26, 2015

The City of St. George and Write It Up! will host a special event at Sunset on the Square to celebrate the many local charities that impact the Southern Utah community by providing vital programs and services to our residents.

St. George, UT – Sunset on the Square (SOTS) will feature the movie Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory on Friday, June 26, 2015 at Town Square Park in Historic Downtown St. George as part of the Annual Nonprofit Night festivities.  Sunset on the Square is a free community event sponsored by local businesses and organizations.

Over the past 7 years Sunset on the Square (SOTS) has become a staple for locals during the summer months.  The Friday night FREE family movie series is hosted by Write It Up! in partnership with the City of St. George. Led by Dawn McLain, the series has become known for its family friendly fun, prizes, movies and so much more.  Town Square hosts the events on the second and fourth Friday of each month now thru August 28th in the City of St. George.   SOTS has been a huge success averaging 1500 – 2000 attendees per event, and more on special event nights such as Nonprofit Night; Pioneer Day Celebration and Chamber Night.

“This is an event that we do each year on the fourth Friday in June, and it is one of my favorites.  In Utah there are over 4,300 registered 501c3 organizations that collectively employ 63,000 people. They offer a broad range of services, filling in where government and the private sector don’t and fitting a general definition of serving the public interest.” explained McLain.

“These nonprofits make all the difference,” St. George Mayor Jon Pike said during a Utah League of Cities and Towns and Utah Nonprofits Association Town Hall event earlier this year. “We cannot do it without them and without each other and without believing in whatever individual cause each organization has. That’s how we’ll make the ends meet.”

Nonprofit Night is always a crowd pleaser packed with lots of “extras”.  Vendors and sponsors will arrive on site at 5:00 and host games, face painting, water balloons, dancing, music, food, vendors, bubble machines – and the Golden Ticket Contest!!!
As many Sunset on the Square regulars already know Brad Harr & Assoc. ????????hosted a Golden Ticket candy bar contest selling chocolate bars from their office, Dealer Collision Center???????? and the St. George Children's Museum – 5 of those bars had  Golden Tickets!  The 5 Golden Ticket winners will all have the opportunity to participate in candy based contests to win a GREAT grand prize – but, just like Willy Wonka said, "The suspense is terrible… I hope it'll last."  The Brad Harr & Assoc. team will keep everyone guessing right up until the last minute – you'll have to be there to see this prize!!

Golden Ticket Challenges include Root Beer guzzling; bubble blowing contest; Skittle Stuffing and more!!

The best part?  Wonka himself said, "So shines a good deed in a weary world."  Tomorrow night Brad Harr????????and his team will be shining very brightly indeed – proceeds from the sales of the chocolate bars will be donated to the St. George Children's Museum!

To celebrate Nonprofit Night right, KCSG Television will also be sponsoring a prize for the best Nonprofit Booth.  Judging will be right before the movie by audience applause, so come and support the many vital programs local nonprofits provide to Southern Utah!
Sunset on the Square will also be featuring a star gazing party on site!!  The St. George Astronomy Club is planning will play host to their largest star gazing event yet. The organization will set up an information booth at the event in downtown St. George. Prior to the movie which will play at dusk, solar telescopes will be available to attendees for safe viewing of the sun.  Once darkness falls upon the park, telescopes will be set up for night time star gazing (8:30 p.m.). Local astronomers predict that Venus, Jupiter, and Saturn will be visible, rings and all!  The St. George Astronomy Group is excited to share their knowledge and love for the stars.

Nonprofits that will be in attendance tomorrow night include: Utah Nonprofits Association; American Association of University Women, the Dixie Elks; Girls on the Run of Southern Utah; Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Utah; Head Start of Cedar City; Stevens Henager College; The Dove Center; St. George Children's Museum; Washington County Youth Crisis Center; St. George Astronomy Club; and the St. George Art Museum.
