CONCORD, N.C. – Bass Pro Shops and Chip Ganassi Racing today unveiled a patriotic paint scheme to adorn Jamie McMurray’s No. 1 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 during the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (MENCS) All-Star Race this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway (CMS). The stars and stripes themed car is a special salute to the USO (United Service Organizations) and the service members and families it supports.
McMurray, one of 20 drivers competing for the $1 Million payout at the 1.5-mile Charlotte track, will make his 12th start in the All-Star Race. In 2014, driving the No. 1 Bass Pro Shops/Tracker Boats Chevrolet SS, McMurray thrilled the crowd at CMS with a daring pass on the race’s final restart to power his way to victory and the $1 Million dollar Grand Prize.
"We are very proud to celebrate ten years of partnership with our friends at Chip Ganassi Racing," said noted conservationist and Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris. “And, we’re especially honored to donate this special paint scheme as a tribute to our military and veterans. All of us at Bass Pro Shops will be cheering on our pal Jamie, a remarkably talented racer and a great ambassador for the outdoors.”
Bass Pro Shops has long supported the efforts of the USO, its largest and longest-standing customer donation partnership, empowering customers to donate and providing funds that deliver USO2GO kits which include the comforts of home to service members while defending our country.
McMurray, a native of Joplin, Missouri, made his first All-Star Race appearance in 2003, earning a spot by capturing his first MENCS career victory in just his second series start at CMS. The field of drivers includes all 2017 and 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race winners, former All-Star Race winners competing full time (McMurray), former MENCS champions competing full time, the three stage winners in the Monster Energy Open qualifying race and the winner of the fan vote.
The race will feature four stages: Stage 1 ends on Lap 30; Stage 2 ends on Lap 50; Stage 3 on Lap 70; and Stage 4 on Lap 80. The All-Star race does not count towards overall points for the 2018 Monster Energy Cup Series standings. The annual Monster Energy NASCAR All-Star Race is scheduled for Saturday, May 19 at Charlotte Motor Speedway beginning at 7 p.m. CDST.
