New Mexico State University has received the New Mexico Family Friendly Business Award and has been recognized at the gold level. The honor celebrates businesses in the state that have family-friendly policies such as paid leave along with health and economic support.
“The purpose of the award is to recognize and support employers that adopt and implement family-friendly policies for their employees,” said Gena Jones, NMSU assistant vice president/chief human resources officer. “Research shows that when employees can balance their work life and their family life they are happier, motivated and more productive at work.”
The New Mexico Task Force on Work Life Balance created the business award. The New Mexico State Legislature created the task force in 2010.
“Given the challenge and competitive nature market pay poses on public higher education, family-friendly benefits such as those offered by NMSU, including time off during the winter holidays, are excellent offerings in helping to recruit and retain outstanding employees,” Jones said.
The Aggiefit program and Tuition Remission Program are two highly utilized NMSU benefits.
An AggieFit membership gives employees access to campus fitness centers such as the Activity Center, Aquatic Center, South Campus Fitness Center and Corbett Fitness Center along with programming from NMSU aquatics, fitness, intramurals and outdoors. Benefits also include health screenings, group fitness classes and pre-registration for Swim School.
One of the most valuable benefits is the tuition waivers available to NMSU employees and family members such as a spouse or domestic partner, children or domestic partner’s children and retirees and retiree’s spouse/domestic partner through the Tuition Remission Program. The program includes tuition waivers for eligible employees up to six hours each fall and spring sessions and up to eight hours in the summer session.
