As work continues on the Downtown roundabout, drivers can expect a temporary overnight closure Tuesday.
Crews will be removing existing asphalt located at the center of the intersection and installing the curb of the circle. For the safety of workers and the traveling public, the intersection will be closed from 10 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, to 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16. The detour will be Fourth Street to Wilcox Street to South Street.
This phase was originally scheduled to be last, after work on all four corners of the intersection was completed. However, as is true with almost any construction project, some things change once work begins.
Crews encountered some unexpected electrical issues on the east side. In an effort to remain on schedule, crews will now work on the center island and the east side simultaneously.
In addition, having portions of the center island completed before the curbs are extended on the east side of the intersection will give motorists more room to maneuver through construction, minimizing congestion and confusion. Please drive safely and pay extra attention in construction zones.
Due to weather delays this project is now expected to wrap up in the first part of September, and more night work is to be expected. Get details and sign up for updates at CRgov.com/PerryRoundabout.
