New Position to Focus on USU Students Outside of Logan, Creates Employer Partnerships

Utah State University has named Anca Matcovschi as director of statewide and online recruitment with the goal of increasing enrollment throughout Utah, and to further the university’s collaborative efforts with corporate, academic and governmental organizations in order to accommodate and elevate employee education. 

Matcovschi will oversee recruitment strategies for all USU campuses outside of the main Logan campus, including USU Eastern and USU Online. As part of the recruitment leadership team, Matcovschi will work closely with associate vice presidents, director of students, the USU-Online director and region-specific admissions specialists at the various statewide campuses.

“In nod to our land-grant heritage, this position will be dedicated to the recruitment of students located in every corner of the state,” said Larry Smith, interim vice president of statewide campuses. 

The newly created position puts Matcovschi in a unique place where she will be able to help increase the integration of efforts among the many university groups who interact with Utah’s location-bound students, many of whom are working professionals, leading busy lives and raising families.

“As a recent non-traditional student myself, I am keen to explore new and exciting ways to engage with this adult population and help Utahns everywhere gain trust in their ability to achieve their educational and professional goals with the help of USU’s comprehensive system of local and online dedicated staff and resources,” Matcovschi said. 

As the state’s land-grant university, a main part of USU’s mission is to share its teaching, research and service expertise, and provide educational opportunities, with everyone in Utah, no matter their location. The expanse of partnerships with Utah’s employers in order to provide flexible educational opportunities is vital for Utah’s economic development, according to Matcovschi.

“I am going to be reaching to employers across Utah and share with them the multiple benefits of supporting their employees in pursuing educational opportunities with USU,” Matcovschi said. “An educated workforce benefits not only the employers, but it benefits the individual, and that is really where it changes lives.”

Matcovschi, who has been the online marketing manager with USU’s University Marketing and Communications office has extensive experience with both marketing and student recruitment. In her role with UMAC, she has provided strategic planning, creative direction, setup/implementation and day-to-day management and reporting of public relations, branding, digital advertising, institutional partnership initiatives, recruitment events and online program marketing campaigns. 

Prior to joining USU, Matcovschi was a marketing manager at Hotwax Systems, a marketing automation consultant at MKTR.cc, both in Salt Lake City, Utah, and a team leader/traffic manager-marketing automation for Harte Hanks in Romania. 

Matcovschi holds both a bachelor’s and master’s in marketing and business communications from Al.I.Cuza University in Iasi, Romania, and an MBA from Utah State University. Matcovschi is the recipient of the 2020 UPCEA Dorothy Durkin Award for Strategic Innovation in Marketing and/or Enrollment Management.

Originally from Iasi, Romania, Matcovschi moved to the United States in 2016 to start a family with her husband.
