The City recently installed multi-space parking meters in several new locations:
· The Depot South lot in the 700 block of “O” Street
· On the street adjacent to the Schwarz Building at 8th and “O” streets
· Innovation Campus
The pay stations accept coins and credit cards, and the public may also use the Passport parking app. Users will need to enter their license plate numbers as part of the transaction so that parking ambassadors will be able to identify those vehicles for which payment has been made.
The existing single space parking meters will be relocated to other parts of downtown where they will replace older equipment.
On-street hours of enforcement will remain 8 a.m.to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The amount of parking that a person is able to purchase will continue to be one or two hours, which is indicated on the posted signs. The hours of enforcement for the two surface lots will be expanded to 8 a.m. to 2 a.m.
Parking ambassadors will issue warning citations on vehicles parked in on-street areas controlled by the new parking meters through Wednesday, June 27. In the two surface lots with the new meters, ambassadors will issue warning citations from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. through July 3. Parking Manager Wayne Mixdorf said this will give the public time to learn how to use the new pay stations and adjust to the new enforcement hours in the surface lots.
Mixdorf said the changes were implemented after discussion with the Parking Advisory Council, area businesses affected by the change, Farmers Market management and the Downtown Lincoln Association.
