Mayor’s Youth Council and Special Friends To Host Cookie Decorating And Holiday Activities

CHEYENNE – The Mayor’s Youth Council and Special Friends program will host a cookie decorating activity at the Paul Smith Children’s Village, 710 S. Lions Park Drive, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 16. Children and their parents are invited to join members of the council and Special Friends in decorating holiday cookies, coloring pictures, and participating in children’s holiday games. Cookies, frosting and decorations will be provided. There is no charge to attend the event.

Now in its 17th year, the Mayor’s Youth Council is comprised of high school-age students. The purpose of the council is to increase awareness and involvement of Cheyenne’s youth in city government and in the community at large. Members gain hands-on experience by meeting with the Mayor, attending City Council meetings, and planning projects.

Special Friends is a mentor program that provides adult volunteers for youth in the community who need a positive role model to help them navigate life’s challenges.

The Mayor’s Youth Council and Special Friends are programs of the City of Cheyenne, The Office Youth Alternatives. The mission of Youth Alternatives is to intervene in the lives of young people at an impressionable stage in their emotional growth and development when positive behaviors are more easily formed.
