Mayor Suthers recognizes Bike to Work Day Corporate Challenge winners, station sponsors

Companies recognized for efforts to support bicycling in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Mayor John Suthers recognized the winners of the Bike to Work Day Corporate Challenge and breakfast station competition during an event Monday night to officially close out June as Bike Month in Colorado Springs.

This year, 45 companies and organizations ranging from 2 to 5,000 employees participated in the Corporate Challenge. Their participation in the Corporate Challenge shows their dedication to wellness and quality of life for their employees and we want to recognize them for their efforts.

Participating organizations competed in classes by number of employees. First place winners for each class received a special award and generously donated prize for participating winners to enjoy. Class A- 1-29 employees

Prize: Tour and Tasting at Goat Patch Brewery

Class B- 30-99 employees

USA Cycling

Prize: 2-hour party at Whirlyball

Class C- 100-299

United States Olympic Committee

Prize: Luxury Suite at a SkySox Baseball game

Class D- 300-1,000+

Centura Health

Prize: Two-hour chair massage group session

Three head-to-head competitions participated in this year’s Corporate Challenge: (Winners are highlighted).

Winners for each head-to-head received a trophy they can proudly display within their organization until next year’s competition.

Bike to Work Day breakfast stations competed in four categories: People’s Choice, Best Food, Best Entertainment, and Most Creative. Bike to Work Day participants voted on these winners.

Most Creative- The Lincoln Center

Heart and Soul Award- Sara Vaas- Council of Neighbors and Organizations. Sara was selected by the organizing committee for her efforts to go above and beyond to ensure that the breakfast station at Acacia Park was as vibrant and hopping as our downtown is.

Colorado Springs’ 25th Annual Bike to Work Day broke records for both participation and breakfast stations, with 1,355 registered riders visiting 28 breakfast stations around town! 586 of those riders participated in the Corporate Challenge.

Colorado’s Bike to Work Day, which takes place the fourth Wednesday of June, encourages bicycling for personal and community health, alternative transportation, recreation and sustainability. In Colorado Springs, breakfast stations sponsored by local companies and organizations are located along the bicycle network and designed to support how people actually ride their bikes to work while highlighting local support for bicycling in the community
