Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton and Phoenix Sister Cities, Inc. a non-profit organization dedicated to creating and enhancing global connections in business and youth exchange is hosting the 4th annual Mayor’s International Gala on Thursday, April 27, 2017, at the Sheraton Downtown Phoenix, 340 N. Third St. Reception will be held from 6 – 7 p.m. with dinner following from 7 – 9 p.m. Mayor Stanton will present the 2017 Global Citizen Award during the event.
This year’s event celebrates Taipei, Taiwan and honors its 37-year history as a Sister City to Phoenix. The event will feature delicious cuisine of Taiwan and festive Asian cultural entertainment by Arizona Art Academy. Heidi Foglesong is the emcee for this incredible evening of culture, diversity and warmth.
Recently, Mayor Stanton visited Taipei with a delegation from the City of Phoenix to reaffirm the City’s partnership and met with both Taipei Mayor Ko and Taiwan President Tsai. It was an exciting moment for all involved as the reaffirmation signing took place with great enthusiasm. (See attached photos).
Each year the Mayor’s International Gala recognizes one of the Sister Cities supported by the City of Phoenix. These relationships cross physical borders, remove cultural barriers and foster greater awareness of long-term partnerships and mutually beneficial business and personal exchanges and outcomes.
“The Mayor’s Gala brings people together to support cultural diversity and recognize the amazing partnerships the Phoenix Sister Cities has established around the world,” said Paula West, President and CEO, Phoenix Sister Cities, Inc. “This is where people come to learn and celebrate personal and professional connections made between our local residents and those of our Sister Cities.”
Title sponsors of the 2017 Gala are: ASU and Thunderbird School of Global Management. In addition, gala supporters include Presidential Sponsors: Copperpoint Mutual Insurance and Transdev; Global Sponsor: Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and Ambassador Sponsors: Talking Stick Resort Arena, Arizona Diamondbacks, U-Haul and SRP.
