Local officials to celebrate grand opening of The Villages Miami

(Miami, FL, June 28, 2018) – City of Miami Commission Chairman Keon Hardemon will join community leaders on Friday, June 29, 2018, 10 a.m., including Congresswoman Frederica Wilson, State Representative Cynthia Stafford, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Audrey Edmonson, and Miami-Dade County Public Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho, to celebrate the completion and dedication of The Villages Miami, a 150-unit affordable rental development at 773 NW 67 Street in Liberty City. The new development which is fully leased is made possible by a partnership between the Urban League of Miami and its affiliate New Urban Development.

The officials will join other community members at the grand opening of the $38 million development, which received $2 million in HOME (federal) funding from the City of Miami administered via its Department of Community & Economic Development, $3.9 million in HOME funds from Miami-Dade County, and a $6 million SAIL loan from the State of Florida. The Villages Miami is part of the Urban League of Miami’s We Rise Educational Village, an initiative spanning several blocks in Liberty City and involving multiple local organizations, including Miami-Dade County Public Schools, in a concentrated effort to support thirteen neighborhood K-12 schools, their students and parents towards strengthening the community.
