The Lincoln Commission on Human Rights (LCHR) announced today that a California-based company has been accused of discriminating and retaliating against a Lincoln resident. In May, a Hearing Officer appointed by LCHR recommended that the Complainant, Raul Alvarez, receive $98,472.00 in lost wages and $75,000.00 for emotional distress from his previous employer, SBM Site Services. LCHR is expected to consider the recommendations and enter an order at its next monthly meeting scheduled for July 26.
Based on the evidence presented, the Hearing Officer determined SBM Site Services failed to promote Alvarez, unfairly disciplined him, and ultimately fired him based on his national origin and partly due to his age. The Officer also recommended SBM Site Services pay the City of Lincoln a civil penalty of $15,000.00 for violating the Lincoln Municipal Code’s prohibitions on age and national origin discrimination.
Alvarez filed a complaint of discrimination against his former employer with LCHR in December 2016.
